LocalSend

Tien Do Nam (localsend)

LocalSend is a free, open-source, cross-platform app that lets you securely share files and messages with nearby devices over your local Wi‑Fi network — no internet connection required, and no external servers involved. Think of it as an AirDrop alternative that works across Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS at the same time. The app uses a REST API with HTTPS encryption and generates its own TLS/SSL certificate on each device on the fly, so your transfers are private even without a router with special security settings. On first launch LocalSend automatically discovers every other device on the same network running the app; just tap the recipient, pick your files or type a message, and the transfer begins instantly. There is no account to create, no cloud upload, and no file size cap imposed by the app itself — throughput is limited only by your local network speed. LocalSend is available through every major package manager (Winget, Scoop, Chocolatey, Homebrew, Flathub, Snap, AUR, Nixpkgs) as well as the Google Play Store, Apple App Store, Amazon Appstore, and direct EXE/DMG/APK/AppImage/DEB/TAR installers from GitHub. The app also includes a portable mode (place a settings.json next to the executable) and a hidden start option for tray-only use. The latest stable release is v1.18.2 (August 2026).

Make sure all devices are on the same Wi‑Fi network — LocalSend works entirely offline with no internet required. If a device is not discovered automatically, check that your router does not have AP Isolation enabled (common on guest networks). On Windows, set your network profile to Private and allow LocalSend through your firewall on port 53317 (TCP & UDP). On Linux you can run sudo ufw allow 53317. No account or sign-up is needed.
